Reverse Engineering

Reverse Engineering Service

Do you have something important you need reverse engineering? We provide 3D scanning, In order to replicate with digital accuracy. Alternatively, we can save you money by manually measuring it with calipers, if the product form isn’t too complex. Furthermore, our service allows you to quickly digitise small object In 1-3 days.

Laser scanning service

Quickly digitise your design. Our laser scanning system is perfect for reverse engineering. Due to its ability to achieve complex curvy surfaces, with digital accuracy. For instance, sculptures or sunglasses. Furthermore, many detailed objects can take months to model. Thereby, making our scanning system an ideal turn key solution, for quickly capturing your object into a digital library.

Usually, the cost for small objects is £150 flat fee. In Addition, we will spray the surface with easy to remove paint, if it is shiny. This keeps the laser reading the surface correctly.

Faro scanner

In order to reverse engineer, firstly, the body of the object is scanned. This creates a point cloud. Millions of these points are stitched together to produce a mesh/surface. The laser works to accuracy of 50 microns (0.050mm). So, even the most minute details are captured.

3D Digital model

Is reverse engineered ready for editing or direct 3d printing. Export files are STL,OBJ or PLY.

Color can also be captured if required. The original cleaned mesh file will be wetransferred to you, once post processing is complete. The mesh file will be watertight. Unless, there are any thin cavities. Some manual patching work may be necessary, as the laser cant reach these areas.

Manual Measuring Service

We offer a manual measuring service, If your parts are not to complex and micron tolerances are not needed. We can produce accuracy to a degree of 1mm, using this method. After, we can output which ever format you need. Measuring and CAD  would fall in to the same houry rate. Check out our pricing page for more detailed information.

Calipers

Calipers are the bridge between the old school, lined ruler and new age digital accuracy. You can measure with down to 0.01mm, with a decent set. Although, it is still a manual means of measuring and if not preformed by an experienced designer there will likely be human error. Therefore they will not achieve the same accuracy as scanning.

Something that isnt at all obvious is, in lots of situations when something is scanned, it needs to be edited or manipulated. Assuming thats the case the mesh needs to be manually modelled over to make a producable CAD file (with the exception of 3d priting). We find that its not always a scan or calipers job, its often both. Contact us at microworkshops@gmail.com with a picture of your product and we will advise best coures of action.
